The West Virginia Power turned back the Kannapolis Intimidators, 2-1, at Appalachian Power Park. Frank McClellan, in particular, had a fine performance. He went 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. West Virginia reliever Steve Sommer picked up the win, raising his record to 14-5. Joe Drake was tagged with the loss. Today's win puts West Virginia at 60-34, while Kannapolis falls to 67-27.
In the bottom of the fifth, Austin Keller delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and a runner on 2nd, the West Virginia designated hitter hit a run-scoring single, putting the Power in front, 2-1.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said West Virginia skipper Jose Minera.
