Grasshoppers Fall Short at Hickory, 3-2
|
The Hickory Crawdads had to overcome a fine effort from Greensboro pitcher Bill Diaz to win, 3-2, at L.P. Frans Stadium. Diaz went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. The win went to Lance Henegan in relief, making him now 4-2. Joe Davis took the loss for Greensboro. The Crawdads improved to 45-51.
The decisive blow was delivered by Adam Ownbey in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 22-year old left-handed pitcher Joe Davis to win the game for Hickory. The home crowd went nuts.
"The crowd was juiced," said Ownbey.
