Grasshoppers Snag 2-1 Win
|
The Greensboro Grasshoppers topped the Columbia Fireflies, 2-1, in South Atlantic League action at Spirit Communications Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Greensboro pitcher Matt Phelps. Greensboro reliever Phil O'Keefe picked up the win, upping his record to 3-8. Alex Cuellar took the loss. The Grasshoppers are now 31-65.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Bernie Jimenez? The 23-year old second baseman Jimenez stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put Greensboro up, 2-1. For the game, he was 4 for 4, including 1 double and 3 singles.
"Time to decompress after a tough win," said Phelps.
