The Hickory Crawdads weathered an outstanding game by Lakewood designated hitter Bryan Lupo to topple the BlueClaws, 4-3. Lupo went 3-4 with 2 doubles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. With the win, Hickory has a record of 54-51. Lakewood falls to 63-42.
The Crawdads beat the BlueClaws in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Frank Goodwin produced in the top of the ninth. Batting against Wilson, Goodwin gave his team a 4-3 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
Goodwin attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
