The Columbia Fireflies picked up a win at Spirit Communications Park, downing the Greenville Drive, 6-3. On the mound for Columbia was right-hander Mike Torres, who played a pivotal role in the win. Bert Reed picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 8-5. Alexis Cordova was tagged with the loss. The win puts the Fireflies at 57-48, while the Drive drop to 48-57.

Torrance, California-born Roy Renner came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Fireflies trailing 3-2, he hit a 2-run single to right to put Columbia on top.

"I'm not out there for personal accomplishments," Renner told a Columbia Daily reporter after the game. "I'm out there to help the team win, and that's what we did today."
