The Greenville Drive overcame a pretty good performance by Lakewood shortstop Fred Martin, beating the BlueClaws, 5-4, at Fluor Field at the West End. Martin went 2 for 4 with a home run and a triple. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Luis Boyd earned the save for Greenville, his 6th. The 6th-place Drive go to 46-61.

Making an impact for the home team was Randy Cooper. In the bottom of the fourth, the 24-year old center fielder had a run-scoring ground out. That made the score 5-2, Drive.

"I warned the team before the game," losing manager David Reighard told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."
