Savage Excels, But RiverDogs Win
The Charleston RiverDogs overcame a good performance by Greensboro first baseman Dan Savage to knock off Greensboro, 8-6, at NewBridge Bank Park. Savage went 4-5 with 2 home runs and a double. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Rafael Algniz, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-2. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2.2 innings. Phil Martel earned the save for Charleston, his 12th of the year.

The result might have been different, had it not been for 22-year old shortstop Austin Welder. Welder had a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the RiverDogs ahead, 7-6. For the game, Welder had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.

"Winning is seldom easy in this league," said Welder.

Their 45-64 record puts the RiverDogs 6th in the Southern Division.
