The Hickory Crawdads beat the Hagerstown Suns, 5-2, at L.P. Frans Stadium. The Crawdads got a fine performance from shortstop Bill Nugent, who went 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The Crawdads move to 54-56 with the win, while the Suns drop to 56-54.

Nugent had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a 3-1 fastball from Mike Boyd, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Crawdads a 4-2 lead. It was the 16th home run of the year for Nugent.

"See ball, hit ball. When I think too much, that's when I get in trouble," Nugent told the Hickory Bulletin.
