Fans who congregated at State Mutual Stadium were treated to extra-inning drama.

Rome got a valiant performance from pitcher Francisco Caban, but it wasn't enough to beat the Asheville Tourists. Asheville won the game, 5-1. Caban threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Asheville reliever Xavier Wester was the winner. His record is now 3-3. The losing pitcher was Jon Engle.

Asheville needed the clutch hitting of Aaron Cruse to seal the deal. The third baseman swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Tourists on top, 4-1. For the game, Cruse had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.

"It's not about individual awards," Cruse told a Asheville Chronicle reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."

The Tourists sit in first place in the Southern Division with a record of 66-46.
