Asheville turned a good effort from starter Ross Smolnik into a win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers at McCormick Field. The final score was 3-1. Smolnik yielded 1 run over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 0, and struck out 9. His record improves to 8-7. Luis Bugarin, who leads the SAL with a 1.43 ERA, earned the save for Asheville.

The Tourists got a big hit from designated hitter Johnny Paniagua. Facing Greensboro pitcher Manny Custodio in the bottom of the fifth, Paniagua pounded a run-scoring triple to right-center. His 9th triple of the season put the Tourists ahead, 2-0.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Paniagua said after the game.

Asheville is now 67-47, while Greensboro is 37-77.
