The Delmarva Shorebirds could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Donte Reed into a win. Instead, the Asheville Tourists prevailed, 3-2. Reed threw 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball. Asheville, now 68-48, holds down first place in the Southern Division.
Had Bobby Bjorge not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Bjorge hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Tourists.
In postgame remarks, Bjorge hailed his team's "mettle."
