2098 is shaping up to be a forgettable year for the West Virginia Power.
The Lexington Legends got a stellar performance from pitcher Brad Smithwick, who handcuffed the West Virginia offense en route to a win, 4-1, at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. In 6.1 innings, Smithwick surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Josh Roper earned his 10th save in 11 chances.
Stephen Brooks came through for Lexington with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the sixth. The catcher went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and collected 2 RBI.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Brooks.
Lexington is third in the Southern Division with a record of 74-43.
