Fireflies Get Better of Suns, 6-5
|
Columbia picked up a win at Spirit Communications Park, bumping off the Hagerstown Suns, 6-5. Pitcher Ethan Carter was a major reason the Fireflies emerged victorious. Carter, the winner, moves to 6-3. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 11 and giving up 2 walks. Doug Yelland nailed down his 8th save.
Ryan DeLong had a big 2-run home run for the Fireflies in the bottom of the second inning. With Columbia trailing 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Alex Muzquiz and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Fireflies on top, 3-2.
"I had a good game plan," said Carter. "I made my pitches." His manager concurred. "It was all there," Mike Keeney said, "the velocity, the sharpness of his pitches."
Columbia has an impressive 83-34 record.
