The Hickory Crawdads took Columbia pitcher Pat Sawtell's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Spirit Communications Park. The final score had Hickory getting past the Fireflies, 5-3. Sawtell went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 5. Picking up the win was Dylan Bonelli. He went 7.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits. The left--hander struck out 5 and walked 1. Picking up the save was Ivan Pedroza, his 15th.

The outcome might have been different for Hickory, had it not been for Paul Rodriguez, the 23-year old shortstop . Rodriguez stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put Hickory up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.

"Good win for us," said Rodriguez. "We'll strap it on and go after the next one."

The 4th-place Crawdads sport a record of 62-57.
