The Lexington Legends downed the Hickory Crawdads, 9-3, at L.P. Frans Stadium. Stephen Brooks led the way, going 3-for-5 for Lexington. Brad Smithwick, the winning pitcher, is now 8-2. He went 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, while fanning 6 and walking 1. The second-place Legends lifted their record to 77-45.

Lexington used the bat of Gabe Shepherd to get the win. The first baseman hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the first inning to put the Legends ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.

"Enjoyed this one," Shepherd told the Lexington News. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
