Grasshoppers Rip Asheville, 12-1

The Greensboro Grasshoppers soundly defeated the Asheville Tourists, 12-1, at NewBridge Bank Park, with designated hitter Juan Valenciana a major reason why. He went 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5 for Greensboro. David Berredo snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits over 4 innings. He's now 1-1 on the season. The Grasshoppers are now 41-83, while the Tourists fall to 74-50.
With Greensboro leading 8-1 in the bottom of the eighth, Valenciana came up to bat against Asheville pitcher Ryan Brooks. Valenciana hit a fastball to right-center for a grand slam home run. His 6th home run of the season put the Grasshoppers on top, 12-1.
Asheville manager Jarrod Dryman said: "We'll rinse this one off and get ready for the next game."
