The Hickory Crawdads overcame a good performance by Columbia catcher Rory Rachuba to knock off Columbia, 9-8, at Spirit Communications Park. Rachuba was 4-5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2. Francisco Garcia collected his 13th save. Hickory is now 63-65, Columbia 67-61.

Joe Perera came through with a big-time hit for Hickory. The pinch hitter smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 9-8. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"Both teams had plenty of clutch hits," said Perera. "It made for an exciting game."
