Fireflies Continue Skid, Thanks to Cook, Braves
|
The Rome Braves took on the Columbia Fireflies at Spirit Communications Park.
Kenzie Cook had a big hand in the 8-4 Rome triumph over Columbia. He rattled off 4 hits in 5 at-bats, scoring 3 times and knocking in 2 runs. Rome reliever Mike Phelan snagged the win, upping his record to 5-7. Diego Lujan shouldered the loss. Manny de Luna finished to wrap up his 17th save.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Carlos Trujillo? The Rome designated hitter had a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Braves on top, 3-0. For the game, Trujillo had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I like our mindset right now," said Rome manager Tim Helfrich.
The third-place Braves now have a win-loss record of 73-61.
