Legends Top Drive, 7-3
|
The Lexington Legends defeated the Greenville Drive, 7-3, at Fluor Field at the West End. Lexington shortstop Sam Gilpin had a superb performance. He was 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs. Mark Gantt, the winning pitcher, is now 9-8. He went 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits, while fanning 9 and walking 0. The Legends, at 86-50, sit in third place in the Southern Division.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for António Livramento? The Lexington second baseman had a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Legends on top, 7-2. For the game, Livramento had 2 doubles and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Winning makes the heart grow fonder -- for more winning," said Gilpin, cracking a smile.
