Columbia pitcher Nick Allen did his part in helping his team beat the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 5-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The second-place Fireflies raised their record to 89-49.

The Fireflies got a big at-bat from designated hitter Victor Vargas. For the game, Vargas was 1 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 22nd double of the season gave Columbia a 2-0 lead.
