Staten Island registered a win at Richmond County Bank Ballpark by beating the West Virginia Black Bears, 9-4. Pitcher Ignacio Garza was one reason why the Yankees triumphed. West Virginia, with the loss, is still a stout 5-2.

Glenn Welch helped out the Staten Island cause in the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo home run. For the game, the center fielder went 1-5 with a home run.

"Ignacio was exceptional and he pitched with a purpose," said Staten Island manager Erik Bowman.
