Black Bears Win, 3-1, Versus Renegades
|
The West Virginia Black Bears topped the Hudson Valley Renegades, 3-1, in New York-Penn League action at Russell Diethrick Park. The standout performance belonged to West Virginia pitcher and Ottawa Hills, Ohio, native Oscar Valles. The save went to Chuck Ricci, his 4th this season. West Virginia, at 9-2, has sizzled in the early going.
Mario Arevalo had a big solo home run for the Black Bears in the bottom of the fourth inning. With West Virginia leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he got a sinker from Jorge Reyes and swatted a home run to right. It was his 3rd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Black Bears ahead, 2-0.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said West Virginia manager Alex Barahona. "It's usually not just one thing."
