Black Bears Lose Late to Scrappers
|
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers trumped the West Virginia Black Bears, 5-1, at Russell Diethrick Park. Mahoning Valley catcher Justin McCormick was terrific. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Mahoning Valley reliever Kevin Mathison picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Raul Magallanez was saddled with the loss. The loss puts West Virginia at 8-6.
McCormick had an important at-bat with the bases empty in the top of the eighth, when he hit a solo home run. The Scrappers went on to win.
"This is a great group to be a part of, and it's a big win for us," McCormick told the Mahoning Valley News.
