Spikes Stay Hot with Extra-Inning Win
|
The State College Spikes faced a tough opponent in Auburn pitcher Ruben Gutiorroz, but still scratched out a win at Falcon Park by a final score of 4-1 in 11 innings. Gutiorroz went 10 innings and allowed 1 run. Joey Tomaro snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 2 innings. He's now 1-0 on the season. The first-place Spikes lifted their record to 10-6.
State College used the timely hitting of Cesar Rojas to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Spikes on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I like how we're playing right now," said Rojas.
