Longstreth Powers Tigers to 7-5 Win
Not everyone stuck through the 16-minute rain delay, but those who did went home happy.

The Connecticut Tigers beat the Vermont Lake Monsters, 7-5, at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium. Jon Longstreth, who is tied for 6th in the NYP with a .642 slugging percentage, starred for Connecticut. He went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The winner in relief was Victor Mejia. He is now 1-0. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings.

Longstreth had an important at-bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, when he drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Tigers went on to win.

"It's not about individual awards," Longstreth told a Connecticut Citizen reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."

The Tigers move to 8-8 with the win, while the Lake Monsters drop to 4-12.
