Spikes Beat Scrappers, 3-1

State College used a superb performance from starting pitcher Gilberto Nava to down the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, 3-1. Nava, now 2-0, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Alex Lopez notched his 6th save of the season.
Tyler Vestal took Mahoning Valley hurler John Brainerd deep in the bottom of the third. His 3-run home run put the Spikes on top, 3-1. In all, Vestal had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"No matter what our lineup is, the person in the box with an opportunity, it seems like that guy usually comes through for us," said Spikes manager Paul Thomas.
State College has run its win streak to 8 in a row.
