Spinners Handle Tigers, 7-4
|
Lowell Spinners starter Guadalupe Castro pitched a strong game against the Connecticut Tigers at Edward A. LeLacheur Park, leading the Spinners to victory, 7-4. Castro, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 1 hit, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Lowell has now won 5 straight, while the Tigers have lost 3 in a row.
The Tigers had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Spinners going into the bottom of the second inning. That changed quickly when the 18-year old third baseman Jim Porcelli came to the plate. Porcelli hit a 2-run home run on a 1-2 fastball from Connecticut hurler Tony Ramos. It was Porcelli's 1st home run of the year.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Porcelli.
