Lake Monsters Get Win, Hope to Turn Around Slow Start
|
The Vermont Lake Monsters went home winners at Centennial Field, thanks in large part to starter Israel Salanova. Salanova stifled the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, enabling Vermont to grab the 3-0 win. Salanova, now 2-2, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing no runs. The victory makes Vermont 6-13.
Nelson Isidro had a big 2-run home run for the Lake Monsters in the bottom of the first inning. With Vermont leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he sized up a curveball from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Ryan DiPonio and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Lake Monsters on top, 3-0.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Lake Monsters manager Jerry Zuniga. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
