The Vermont Lake Monsters took on the Lowell Spinners at Centennial Field.

The Lowell Spinners got a superb performance from pitcher Jose Mercado, but the Vermont Lake Monsters still won the game, 5-2. Mercado threw 5.0 innings allowing 5 runs. The win was credited to Tony Camarco in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Jose Mercado took the loss.

Kelvin Jimenez had a big 2-run double for the Lake Monsters in the bottom of the first inning. With Vermont leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a splitter from 19-year old right-handed pitcher Jose Mercado and swatted a double to left. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Lake Monsters ahead, 3-0.

Jimenez expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."

The Lake Monsters, at 11-8, sit in second place in the Stedler Division.
