Spikes Get Dramatic 1-0 Win
|
State College left-hander Nate Dickel shut out the Auburn Doubledays, 1-0. Dickel, the winner, moves to 3-1. He threw 9 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 9 and giving up 4 walks. The loss makes Auburn 7-13.
Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 20-year old second baseman Danny Vance had a real shot to win the game. Auburn pitcher Ryushin Grattan was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Vance hit a run-scoring single. The Spikes had a walk-off triumph.
"Nate had good stuff. When he did get into a compromising count, he made the most of it," said State College manager Paul Thomas.
