Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Ironbirds
|
The Aberdeen Ironbirds faced a tough opponent in State College pitcher Adam McNamara, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park by a final score of 3-1. McNamara went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Aberdeen reliever Nate Burciaga snagged the win, upping his record to 1-0. Derrek Romeo shouldered the loss. Aberdeen now sports a record of 10-10.
Aberdeen used the timely hitting of Trevor Westbrook to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Ironbirds on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll put this win in the can," said Westbrook, "and go after the next one."
