Tigers Beat Spinners, 4-1

Rich Talavera pitched a gem to lead Connecticut to victory over the Lowell Spinners, 4-1. The winner was Talavera. He threw 7.2 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Elijah Isaac. Stephen Hightower notched his 3rd save of the season.
Connecticut used a clutch at-bat from Matt Fierce to capture the win. The left fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Tigers ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"You want to go out there and put up zeroes, that's the main thing," said Talavera. "You don't want to get caught in one of those back-and-forth, run-for-run games."
The Tigers raised their record to 12-9.
