Lake Monsters Fall to Spikes, 8-5
With right fielder Pat Gonzales leading the charge, the State College Spikes defeated the Vermont Lake Monsters, 8-5, at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Gonzales went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Angelo Navarrete earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 3.1 innings. He upped his record to 2-0. The Spikes, at 8-17, sit in 5th place in the Pinckney Division.

Tied up with the Lake Monsters in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Spikes got a boost from pinch hitter Stan Landwehr. With the bases loaded, Landwehr saw a 1-0 changeup from Craig Stickelman and hit a 2-run single to break the stalemate and put State College on top, 5-3.

Gonzales expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
