Spinners Lose 4-2 Decision to Staten Island
The Lowell Spinners got a sterling performance from pitcher Efrain Fernandez, but the Staten Island Yankees still prevailed, 4-2. Fernandez threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball. Mike Zizak was the winner. He's now 1-1. The loser was 20-year old right-handed pitcher Efrain Fernandez. Vinny Lopez closed it out for his 2nd save.

Staten Island used a clutch at-bat from Glenn Welch to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Yankees ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

Afterward, Lowell manager Victor Aquino said: "Every team has a bad week."

The win for the Yankees lifted their record to 16-10.
