The Aberdeen Ironbirds topped the West Virginia Black Bears, 5-3, in New York-Penn League action at Russell Diethrick Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Aberdeen pitcher Juan Jones. In 7 innings, Jones surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 3 runs. Nate Burciaga was called on to finish, recording his 2nd save.

It could have been a different outcome for Aberdeen, had it not been for Trevor Westbrook, the 22-year old shortstop . Westbrook contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the fifth inning to put Aberdeen up, 5-3.

"I'm just trying to make sure I'm focused for each and every pitch," said Jones.

The victory gives Aberdeen a record of 15-12.
