Black Bears Snatch Late Win
Starting pitcher David Needham pitched well enough to help the West Virginia Black Bears beat the Staten Island Yankees, 5-3. Hidenobu Matsuzaki snagged the win in relief. In 2 innings, the right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits. He's now 1-0 on the season. At 8-19, the Black Bears find themselves in last place in the Pinckney Division.

A critical at-bat came in the top of the eighth inning when the Black Bears sent 21-year-old third baseman Chris Daniel to the plate with runners on 1st and 3rd. The youngster shook off the pressure and hit a sacrifice fly, to put West Virginia on top, 4-3.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Needham told a West Virginia Citizen reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
