Yankees Drop Spinners, 7-3
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Lowell Spinners and Staten Island Yankees get after it.
Yankees left fielder Juan Velasco put his stamp on his team's 7-3 win over the Lowell Spinners. Velasco was 3-4 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Staten Island in the contest. Bob Searle, the winner, is now 2-4. He struck out 3 and walked 3 over 5.1 innings, while allowing 2 runs on 5 hits.
There was more than one reason the Yankees beat the Spinners, but Velasco's big at-bat in the bottom of the third was an important factor. He staked his team to a 4-2 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Velasco told the Staten Island Bulletin.
Staten Island is in last place in the McNamara Division with a record of 7-22.
