Spikes Take Down Black Bears, 9-5
|
The State College Spikes topped the West Virginia Black Bears, 9-5, with youngster Carlos Cerda playing a key role. Cerda was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs for the Spikes in the win. State College reliever Craig Burns picked up the win, raising his record to 1-3. Rogelio Montoya was tagged with the loss. With the victory, the Spikes record now stands at 10-19.
This game was not decided until late. With no one out in the top of the tenth, Samppa Osterbur drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Spikes took the lead, 5-4.
In postgame comments to the State College Bulletin, Cerda said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
