One Run Not Enough for Lake Monsters
|
Runs were scarce at Centennial Field.
Starting pitcher Victor Fuentes gave the Batavia Muckdogs a rock-solid effort. The Santiago, Dominican Republic native helped his team defeat the Vermont Lake Monsters, 2-1, at Centennial Field. The winning pitcher was Fuentes, now 1-1. He tossed 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 7.
It could have been a different outcome for Batavia, had it not been for Marco Cubero, the 21-year old right fielder . Cubero contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Batavia up, 2-1.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Fuentes told reporters after the game.
The 4th-place Muckdogs improved to 11-19.
