Ironbirds Make It 5 In a Row with 8-6 Triumph Over Vermont
|
Though he had a terrific game, Mike Volker could not prevent his team, the Vermont Lake Monsters, from absorbing a loss. Aberdeen won the game, 8-6. Volker was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Aberdeen pitcher Mike Colon got the win. He's now 2-0. Mike Thompson was tagged with the loss. Aberdeen now has a record of 24-8 with the win.
Shane Pendleton had a big 2-run home run for the Ironbirds in the bottom of the first inning. With Aberdeen leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 19-year old right-handed pitcher Mike Thompson and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Ironbirds on top, 3-0.
"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Ironbirds manager Jose Sierra.
