The West Virginia Black Bears defeated the Aberdeen Ironbirds by the score of 6-1. Willie Ovalle starred for West Virginia, going 2-for-3 with 1 home run. The winner was Hidenobu Matsuzaki in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Omar Reyes took the loss. The win gives the Black Bears a record of 12-23.

Ovalle had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a first pitch cutter from Bobby Olvera, he banged a 3-run home run to left-center, giving the Black Bears a 4-1 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Ovalle.

"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Black Bears manager Carlos Guerrero, "I like our chances."
