Scrappers Tuck Away 3-1 Win Over Brooklyn
|
Brooklyn got a decent performance from pitcher Dave Ives, but it wasn't enough to beat the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. Mahoning Valley won the Eastwood Field contest, 3-1. Ives threw 7.0 innings allowing 3 runs for the losing team. The save was credited to Amari Worrell, his 4th. Mahoning Valley is now 24-12, Brooklyn 13-23.
The Cyclones had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Scrappers going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old right fielder Andy Thompson came to the plate. Thompson hit a solo home run on a full count fastball from Brooklyn hurler Dave Ives. It was Thompson's 4th home run of the year.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Thompson told the Mahoning Valley News.
