Scrappers Go Down to Defeat, 4-2
|
The Williamsport Crosscutters took Mahoning Valley pitcher Kevin Peterson's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Eastwood Field. The final score had Williamsport getting past the Scrappers, 4-2. Peterson went 5.1 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 8. Jeremy Bennett, the winner, improved to 5-3. He held the Scrappers to 2 runs on 6 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 2. At 29-7, Williamsport is in first place in the Pinckney Division.
Williamsport used a well-timed hit by Jay Lane to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Crosscutters ahead, 4-2. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Lane. "Just do my job."
