Vermont Lake Monsters starter Joe Martin found his groove in his team's 2-0 win over the Auburn Doubledays. The winning pitcher was Martin, now 1-4. He tossed 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5. Earning his 4th save for Vermont was John Grover.
Mike Mattingly, who is tied for 7th in the NYP with a .548 slugging percentage, chipped in a 2-run home run for Vermont in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"No disrespect to the other team," said Vermont manager Jerry Zuniga. "But it's nice to get an easy win."
The Lake Monsters raised their record to 18-20.
