Hits Blitz for Tigers Allen
Andy Allen did everything he could for the Connecticut Tigers -- literally.

The 20-year-old second baseman hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Tigers, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Staten Island Yankees, 14-3, at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium.

"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Allen reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."

In a game headed for the record books, Allen banged out 4 hits in 4 at-bats and totaled 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."

"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."

Andy Allen doubled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Oscar Arzola in the 2nd, hit an RBI triple in the 4th and singled in the 5th.

This season, Allen is hitting at a .328 pace with 5 home runs, 15 RBIs and has scored 20 times.
