Spikes Get Dramatic 1-0 Win
|
In a tension-filled contest between the State College Spikes and the Vermont Lake Monsters, pitcher Chuck Bannon was superb. The State College right-hander, who is tied for 9th in the NYP with a 1.85 ERA, spearheaded his team's 1-0 win. State College is second in the Pinckney Division with a record of 24-14.
The climactic moment came in the bottom of the ninth for State College. That's when Brandon Wiggs, who is tied for 5th in the NYP in home runs with 5, hit a solo home run off Bill Peffer to win the game. The home crowd erupted in celebration.
"That game was intense," Wiggs said.
