Connecticut Beats Staten Island in Extra Innings
|
In a close game at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium, the Connecticut Tigers edged the Staten Island Yankees, 5-4. Connecticut right fielder Bruce Hess stood apart with his performance. He was 4-6 with 4 singles. He drove in 2 runs. Connecticut reliever John Collura picked up the win to move to 3-0. Cory Hicks suffered the loss. Connecticut has now won 5 straight.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the tenth. With two out, Hess hit a cutter from Cory Hicks for a run-scoring single. The Tigers, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"Our guys refused to lose," said Hess.
