Tri-City Falters Again, Loses, 2-1, to Connecticut
|
Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium was the site of a true pitchers' duel.
Pitcher Ricardo Batista was sensational for the Connecticut Tigers in his team's 2-1 triumph over the Tri-City ValleyCats. Batista earned the win. Batista, the winner, moves to 3-3. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 2 walks.
Luis Cruz had a big run-scoring double for the Tigers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Connecticut leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Alex Molina, who is tied for 9th in the NYP in quality starts with 4, and swatted a double to left. It was his 7th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Tigers ahead, 2-0.
"We're not exactly playing great right now," said Eddie DiGiovine, the Tri-City manager.
The slumping ValleyCats have dropped 6 in a row.
