Vargas Lifts Lake Monsters to 9-2 Triumph
With center fielder Juan Vargas leading the charge, the Vermont Lake Monsters defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones, 9-2, at Centennial Field. Vargas was 4 for 5 with a triple and 2 doubles, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Jose Gradillas, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-1. He allowed no runs on 4 hits in 4 innings. Vermont is now 12-29, Brooklyn 21-20.

Vargas contributed a big hit, a 2-run double, for Vermont in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Vargas took a fastball from Billy Galindo and stroked the double to center. His 8th double of the season allowed the Lake Monsters to leap in front, 3-2.

"We didn't put our best foot forward tonight," said losing manager Kevin Stark.
