Aberdeen Stymied by Staten Island, 2-1
|
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Staten Island Yankees and the Aberdeen Ironbirds. Staten Island won it, 2-1. Staten Island starter Jack Morrison was in command. David Sandoval picked up the win in relief. Nick Keller took the loss for Aberdeen. Chris Gowland recorded the save for Staten Island, his 2nd of the season.
Staten Island took control in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, Matt Vuckovich hit a run-scoring single to make it 2-1, Yankees.
"Good ballgame," said Aberdeen manager Jose Sierra. "But we came up on the short end."
The second-place Yankees go to 23-19.
