Nosediving Doubledays Drop 8th Straight

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers took Auburn pitcher Ryushin Grattan's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Falcon Park. The final score had Mahoning Valley getting past the Doubledays, 3-2. Grattan went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 7. Danny Cruz closed the door for Mahoning Valley, picking up his 5th save of the year. The third-place Scrappers hiked their record to 21-21.
The result might have been different, had it not been for 19-year old third baseman Rick Hershberger. Hershberger had a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Scrappers ahead, 3-2. For the game, Hershberger had 1 double and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"Bad luck's the only luck we've had," said Auburn manager Carlos Lugo.
