Ironbirds Suffer 9-8 Home Loss
The Brooklyn Cyclones overcame a good performance by Aberdeen shortstop Ray Mayfield to knock off Aberdeen, 9-8, at Ripken Stadium. Mayfield was 2-3 with a double and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times. The winner was Brooklyn reliever Wulf van Vliet, now 2-0. The loser was Nate Kellum. With the win, the Cyclones sit at 21-21.

Brooklyn used the bat of Chris Silvas to get the win. The first baseman spanked a grand slam home run in the top of the first inning to put the Cyclones ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it altered the outcome.

"Both teams had plenty of clutch hits," said Silvas. "It made for an exciting game."
